چکیده

Study on corrosion propensity of welded mild steelbar in soil media around the coastal area of University of Lagos has been carried out using gravimetric method. Six (6) samples each for welded and unwelded mild steels were cut, their initial weights were recorded and buried in two selected soil. The weight losses of these coupons were measured at regular intervals for a period of six months (180 days). The corrosiveness of the soil media varied widely depending on the potency level of its constituents. The results revealed that soil in the studied area have marked variations in composition and contents. Soil medium with a lower pH and higher chloride ion concentration aggressively attacked the coupons with the welded steel coupon corroding faster than unwelded one. The medium resistivity to the flow of current is another strong factor affecting corrosion rate. Keywords—Coastal area, corrosion rate, mild steel, soil media, welds.

Mycoremediation of Dichlorvos Pesticide Contaminated Soil by Pleurotus pulmonarius (Fries) Quelet

The extensive use of pesticides leads to accumulation of a huge amount of residues in the environment. As such, the present study investigates the potentiality of Pleurotus pulmonarius to bioremediate dichlorvos pesticides (2,2-dichlorovinyldimethylphosphate) in contaminated soil. DDVP-polluted soils have been contaminated in five concentrations (5% v/w, 10% v/w, 15% v/w, 20% v/w, and 25% v/w),...

Experimental study of formability of friction stir welded ultra-thin sheets of IF steel

In this paper, the experimental investigation of formability of friction stir welded ultra-thin sheets of IF steel is investigated experimentally. First, the sheets are joined by friction stir welding process based on the tests determined according to the Taguchi design of experiments. The investigated parameters in the welding process are as tool rotational and traverse speeds. Then, the tailo...

Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of the Friction Welded Joint between X53CrMnNiN219 and X45CrSi93 Stainless Steel

Dissimilar metals friction welding of austenitic–martensitic stainless steels is commonly used in order to manufacture engine valves in the automobile industry. In this study, X53CrMnNiN219 (austenitic stainless steel) and X45CrSi93 (martensitic stainless steel) valve steel rods were welded by friction welding process. The welded joint was then heat treated at 760 0C for 60 min. Mechanical prop...

Formability Study of Steel Tailor laser Welded Blanks (TWB) in Stretch Forming

The use of TWB has been developed in automotive industries because of it’s advantages such as reduction in weight, cost and fuel economy of vehicles. The main objective of the peresent work is to study the effects of weld zone, diffrence in surface coating and thickness ratio on the formability of TWB composed of AISI 304, SPCC and IF steel sheets. It was found that the narrow weld zone has lit...
